Academic Year Dormitory Application Q&A
1. Eligibility Criteria for Academic Year Accommodation
Applicants must be currently enrolled students at our university (i.e., holding an active student status).
2. Application Procedure
(1) Please log in to the Student Housing Application System and submit an online application within the specified period. Late applications will be placed at the end of the third priority group.
(2) Late applicants will be placed directly on the waiting list in chronological order.
3. Due to limited bed availability, an approved housing eligibility does not guarantee a room assignment for the academic year. All accommodations will be allocated through a computer lottery system.
After completing and submitting the online housing application, please be sure to verify the following:
1. Confirmation of Submission
Ensure that the message "Application Successful" is displayed on the Student Housing Application System. This indicates that your online application has been successfully transmitted to the housing coordinator for review. If this message does not appear, your application was not submitted successfully, and you must resubmit it.
2. System Notifications
Once the housing coordinator receives your application, they will officially review it and issue a status of either "Approved" or "Rejected". A automated system email will then be sent to notify you. If you do not receive an "Approved" or "Rejected" notification email within a reasonable timeframe, your application may not have reached the coordinator. In this case, please contact the housing coordinator immediately to verify.
3. Verification of Status
After the housing coordinator reviews and updates your application to "Approved" or "Rejected", this status will be synchronized and displayed directly on the Student Housing Application System. Applicants are strictly required to log in to the system to verify their status. If no application record or data is visible on the system, it means the submission failed. Please resubmit the online application immediately and contact the housing coordinator for confirmation.
I. Accommodation for both undergraduate students (from freshman to senior years) and postgraduate students (Master’s and Ph.D.) will be allocated via a computer-generated random lottery sequence according to the priority list below:
1. First Priority:
• (1) Economically Disadvantaged Students: Students who hold a low-income or mid-low-income certificate issued by a county or municipal government, or those who received Level 1 financial aid under the Ministry of Education’s Financial Aid Program for Disadvantaged Students in the previous academic year.
(2) Students with Disabilities: Students holding valid proof of physical or mental disability.
• (3) Incoming International and Overseas Chinese Students: International students and Overseas Chinese students enrolled in undergraduate years 1 to 4, or the 1st year of a postgraduate program (Master's/Ph.D.).
(4) Offshore Island Students: Students whose household registration has been officially established in areas outside mainland Taiwan (offshore islands) for more than one year.
(5) Indigenous Students: Indigenous students whose household registration has been established in recognized indigenous tribal areas for more than one year.
(6) Merit-Based Rewards: Students awarded housing privileges or rewards in accordance with relevant dormitory regulations.
2. Second Priority
(1) Non-Metropolitan Area Residents: Students whose entire household registration and actual residence have been established outside of Taipei City and New Taipei City for more than one year.
(2) Continuing International and Overseas Chinese Students: International and Overseas Chinese students who do not qualify under the First Priority category.
(3) Varsity Athletes: Current members of official university sports representative teams.
3. Third Priority:Students who do not qualify under either the First or Second Priority categories.
Please note that applications for summer housing and academic year accommodation are processed entirely separately. Consequently, applying for or receiving summer housing does not guarantee that you will be allocated a room for the academic year. Applicants must submit separate applications for summer housing, academic year housing, or both, in strict accordance with the relevant regulations.
If your student enrollment status changes to "Graduated", "Suspended", or "Withdrawn" during the academic year housing period, you must comply with the University's Student Dormitory Management Regulations. Any student who has graduated, suspended their studies, withdrawn from the university, or canceled their housing must move out of the dormitory within 7 days (or 2 weeks for overseas Chinese students) after receiving the official notification of approval.
During the group rooming process, the system will automatically cross-reference your bed space data across the current academic year, the summer session, and the upcoming academic year. Please read the following conditions carefully:
1. Conditions Eligible for "Same-Room Retention" Option
If you have been allocated the same dormitory for your current academic year, the summer session, and the upcoming academic year, AND your current bed space is not blocked due to being reserved for Freshman Zones, summer camps, summer Master’s programs, or scheduled renovations, the group leader will have the opportunity to apply for the same room and bed.
• System Prompt: In this scenario, the system will display a prompt asking: "Would you like to keep your current room?". This option is available if the group leader is allocated to the same dormitory as their summer housing during the first-stage distribution.
• Important Notice: The "Keep Current Room" option is an expression of preference only and serves as a reference for the system's room assignment. Whether you can actually retain your current room depends entirely on whether that specific room is open during the summer. It does not guarantee the final bed assignment outcome.
2. Conditions Ineligible for "Same-Room Retention" Option
If you were not allocated the same dormitory for the summer session and the upcoming academic year, OR if your current bed space is closed because it is reserved for Freshman Zones, summer camps, or scheduled renovations, the group leader will not be able to retain the same room and bed.
• System Display: The system will not display the prompt "Would you like to keep your current room?".
• Applicable Scenarios: This applies if the group leader had no campus housing in the previous semester, was allocated a different dormitory during the first-stage distribution, or if their original room has been designated as a special zone or closed. In these cases, room retention is not allowed. Please consult the Group Rooming User Manual for detailed instructions.
3. General Notice on Room Availability and Adjustments
Please Note: The university may close or adjust specific blocks of bed spaces during the summer to accommodate Freshman Zones, summer camps, summer Master’s programs, or necessary renovations. Consequently, system matching for the same room and bed is only possible for bed spaces outside of these restricted blocks. Please ensure you fully understand this condition before deciding whether to apply for academic year accommodation.
1. Official Regulatory Provisions
According to the University's Student Dormitory Management Regulations: Students who voluntarily withdraw from the dormitory are ineligible to reapply for on-campus housing within the same academic year. Students whose housing applications have been approved and assigned a bed space, but who fail to pay the accommodation fee within the specified deadline, will be deemed as having voluntarily withdrawn from the dormitory. Consequently, their priority status for the following academic year's housing will be demoted by one lower priority level.
2. Notice to Applicants and Consequences of Non-Payment
Please be strongly advised that students who fail to pay their academic year accommodation fees on time will have their bed space reservations canceled, and their housing priority for the next academic year will be demoted by one priority category.
Given the strict nature of these regulations, students who require academic year housing must complete their payments punctually. If you encounter any payment-related issues, or if you decide to forfeit your assigned bed space, you must notify the Housing Office within the payment deadline to avoid being penalized for late or unpaid accommodation fees.

Room Cancellations for Fall and Spring Semesters
1. Cancellation on or before August 1st / January 1st:
Students who apply to cancel their housing on or before August 1st (for the Fall semester) or January 1st (for the Spring semester) will receive a full refund of the accommodation fee and a 1/2 (50%) refund of the housing deposit.
2. Cancellation before the official move-in date (excluding the date itself):
Students who apply to cancel their housing prior to the officially announced move-in date will receive a full refund of the accommodation fee. However, the housing deposit will be forfeited and is non-refundable.
3. Cancellation within 30 days after the official move-in date:
Students who complete their move-out process within 30 days of the official move-in date will receive a 3/4 (75%) refund of the accommodation fee.
• 4. Cancellation from the 31st day up to Midterm Exams / After Midterm Exams:
• Up to Midterm Exams: Students who complete their move-out process after the first 30 days but before the midterm week will receive a 1/2 (50%) refund of the accommodation fee.
• After Midterm Exams: For students who apply to cancel their housing after the midterm week, the accommodation fee already collected is completely non-refundable.
Please consider your housing arrangements carefully before deciding whether to apply for academic year accommodation. If you have decided to forfeit your assigned bed space, you must notify the housing coordinator within the payment deadline to prevent your reservation from being canceled under late-payment penalties.
According to the University's Student Dormitory Management Regulations: Students who voluntarily withdraw from the dormitory are ineligible to reapply for on-campus housing within the same academic year. Therefore, once you decide to forfeit your allocated academic year bed space or officially move out of the dormitory, you will not be permitted to reapply for campus housing for the remainder of that school year. Please consider your living arrangements very carefully before deciding to forfeit your housing or withdraw from the dormitory.
Students who have been assigned an academic year bed space through the lottery must log in to the Student Housing Application System to complete the group rooming process within the specified deadline. Before proceeding, please ensure that you have thoroughly read and understood the Group Rooming User Manual.
Applications for changing dormitories/rooms or swapping beds are strictly limited to one time per person per academic year (including the summer session). For detailed eligibility and procedural requirements, please refer to the "General Waiting List, Designated Waiting List, and Room/Dormitory Transfers" section on our center's official website.
If a student is allocated an academic year bed space through the lottery but subsequently chooses to forfeit it, or if their reservation is canceled due to regulatory non-compliance (such as late payment), the vacated bed space will be released. These newly available bed spaces will then be sequentially allocated to students on the waiting list in strict accordance with the university's housing waitlist regulations.
Prior to the officially announced move-in date, the student dormitories are still occupied by current residents. We must wait for these residents to vacate their rooms and allow our staff to thoroughly clean and prepare the facilities before new students can move in. Consequently, we are unable to accommodate any requests for early move-in.
Furthermore, due to limited public space within the dormitories and strict fire safety regulations requiring all common areas to remain completely clear, the dormitories cannot provide temporary storage for your luggage or belongings beforehand. Please plan and schedule your personal logistics and luggage moving accordingly.
Guaranteed housing is exclusively restricted to incoming freshmen (undergraduates) who qualify under either the First Priority or Second Priority categories. For new postgraduate students (Master's and Ph.D.), housing is guaranteed only for those with First Priority status. New postgraduate students with Second Priority status will be allocated bed spaces based entirely on the results of the lottery system (not guaranteed).
The allocation and arrangement of on-campus housing bed spaces for returning students are detailed below:
1. Availability of Bed Spaces
Bed spaces are allocated to returning students (including delayed-graduation students) via a lottery system only from the remaining vacancies after deducting the estimated guaranteed bed spaces for incoming freshmen (undergraduate, Master’s, and Ph.D.) and beds closed due to severe leaks or peeling plaster (efflorescence). Every current resident has gone through this exact same process.
2. Year-Level Allocation Priority
Bed spaces for undergraduate and postgraduate students are allocated sequentially from lower to higher year levels. To support younger students, the lower the year level, the higher the lottery winning probability; conversely, the higher the year level, the lower the winning probability.
3. Guaranteed Housing Through the Student Dormitory Committee
Returning students in higher year levels who wish to secure on-campus housing are highly encouraged to serve as student dormitory committee leaders and participate in dormitory affairs.
• Eligible Positions: You may register to run for Dormitory President within the specified period (non-resident students currently enrolled are also eligible to run) or serve as a Dormitory Officer (must be a resident of that specific dormitory).
• Rewards and Privileges: Committee leaders serve the resident community. Upon passing the evaluation, they will receive financial rewards each semester. Furthermore, those with outstanding performance in the annual evaluation will be awarded First Priority status for housing applications in the following academic year. Please refer to the "General Regulations of the Student Dormitory Committee" under the Laws section on the Student Housing Service Center website.
4. Important Notice on Variable Room Supply and Waiting List
Every year, several dormitory rooms are closed due to severe functional failures such as water leaks and peeling plaster, which may reduce the total number of available rooms. Meanwhile, the number of applicants demanding housing may remain steady or increase.
Applicants must understand that submitting a housing application does not guarantee a room assignment. We kindly ask students on the waiting list to remain patient during the reallocation process.
Official Response Regarding Returning Exchange Students All students requiring academic year accommodation must submit an official housing application in strict accordance with the university regulations. There is no guaranteed housing or reserved bed spaces for students returning from exchange programs.
1. Impact on Waiting List Students
Residents who are required to vacate but fail to complete the check-out procedures within the designated deadline directly affect the rights and allocation timeline of students on the waiting list. Therefore, you must complete your check-out process within the specified timeframe to prevent delaying accommodations for other students.
2. Penalties and Deposit Deductions
Residents who do not complete the check-out process on time will be subject to disciplinary actions and penalties in accordance with university regulations. Any remaining housing deposit deductions or fees will be processed strictly according to the specific move-in and check-out guidelines of each respective dormitory.
3. Alternative Option: Short-Term Daily Housing
If you are unable to check out on time due to unavoidable circumstances and only need to extend your stay for a few additional days, you may consider applying for non-retained single-day short-term housing in advance. Please refer to the Student Housing Service Center website for detailed application procedures.
4. Critical Reminder: Definition of Completed Check-Out
Please be strongly reminded that an official check-out is determined solely by the verification and completion of the check-out procedures.
• Simply clearing out your bed space, returning your keys, or verbally notifying the staff does not constitute a completed check-out, and your status will remain registered as "Active Resident."
• Failure to complete the formal check-out at the dormitory front desk will be deemed as not having checked out, and you will remain fully liable for all accommodation and related fees. If you have firmly decided to leave, please ensure that you officially complete the check-out procedures at the counter to protect your rights.
Failure to participate in the annual student dormitory fire and earthquake evacuation drill and disaster prevention education at least once per academic year will result in a 5-point deduction. Alternatively, students who miss the university drill must independently attend a fire drill at the Disaster Prevention Science Education Museum of the Taipei City Fire Department and obtain official certification prior to or on the deadline of the upcoming academic year's housing application. Failure to do so will also result in the 5-point deduction. Please be strongly advised that if your cumulative deductions reach 10 points within an academic year, your housing priority status for the following academic year will be demoted by one lower priority level. All residents must pay close attention to this regulation. You are strictly urged to either attend the university-hosted disaster drill or independently obtain the fire drill certification within the designated timeframe.
The Center respects the choice and individual needs of dormitory residents who wish to relocate their household registration to their assigned dormitory for the current academic year. If a resident submits an application to the household registration office, the Center will fully cooperate and provide the necessary housing documentation upon receiving the official administrative request from the relevant government authorities.
